Auditing & Assurance

Independent audit and assurance for credibility, compliance, and confidence.

Auditing and Assurance Services are critical for organisations seeking to build credibility, demonstrate compliance, and strengthen stakeholder confidence in their sustainability disclosures. As the demand for verified ESG information grows, independent audit and assurance provides the foundation for trustworthy reporting that meets the expectations of investors, regulators, and the broader community. At SESG, we deliver comprehensive auditing and assurance services that give organisations confidence in the accuracy and integrity of their sustainability data.

Why Auditing and Assurance Services Matter

Sustainability reporting is only as valuable as the confidence stakeholders place in it. Without independent verification, organisations risk presenting information that is incomplete, inconsistent, or misaligned with recognised standards. Our auditing and assurance services address these challenges by providing rigorous, evidence-based assessments of your non-financial data, management systems, and sustainability disclosures. Whether you are responding to mandatory reporting requirements, preparing for investor scrutiny, or seeking to differentiate your organisation through transparent disclosure, professional assurance delivers tangible benefits. It strengthens internal data governance, identifies areas for improvement, and provides external validation that your sustainability information is reliable and prepared in accordance with applicable frameworks such as ISAE 3000 (Revised), GRI Standards, and ISO management system standards.

Our Approach to Auditing and Assurance

Our approach combines deep technical expertise with practical industry knowledge to deliver audit and assurance engagements that are thorough, proportionate, and aligned with your organisation’s specific context. We offer both limited and reasonable assurance statements for non-financial information, helping organisations meet regulatory requirements, enhance stakeholder trust, and strengthen reporting integrity. Our team works with you to define the scope and criteria for each engagement, ensuring that the most material topics receive appropriate levels of scrutiny. We conduct evidence gathering through document review, data testing, site visits, and stakeholder interviews, providing you with clear findings and actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.

Comprehensive Audit Coverage

Our auditing and assurance services span a wide range of sustainability topics and reporting frameworks. We provide independent verification of greenhouse gas emissions data, energy consumption metrics, water and waste performance, and social impact indicators. We also audit management systems against recognised standards including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001, and assess alignment with sector-specific frameworks and regulatory requirements. Our work supports organisations preparing sustainability reports under GRI, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, and other leading frameworks. By connecting our audit findings with your broader assurance framework development programme, we help you build a systematic approach to verification that strengthens data quality and stakeholder confidence over time.

Key Benefits

Enhanced Credibility

Strengthen stakeholder trust with independently verified sustainability data and disclosures.

Regulatory Compliance

Demonstrate alignment with applicable reporting and assurance requirements across jurisdictions.

Risk Reduction

Identify gaps, inaccuracies, or weaknesses before they become reputational or compliance risks.

Investor Confidence

Provide clear, defensible assurance statements that reinforce accountability and transparency.

This really depends on who is asking for it. For compliance related purposes such as those for companies required to report under the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) AASB S2 standard, a ‘reasonable’ level of assurance is required.

The two main types of assurance are ‘reasonable assurance’ and ‘limited assurance’. To give a higher level of assurance, an auditor must do a more in-depth and rigorous assessment. Reasonable assurance means a high level of confidence but not absolute certainty. Limited assurance means reducing assurance engagement risk to a level that is acceptable in the circumstances of the assurance engagement.
