Our Managing Director, Jackie Spiteri, moderates first in a series of four regional knowledge-sharing series hosted by ADB and ACGF
SESG is proud to support the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the ASEAN Catalytic Green Finance Facility (ACGF) in their ongoing efforts to accelerate the transition toward greener, more climate-resilient ports across Southeast Asia.
As part of this collaboration, SESG Managing Director Jackie Spiteri moderated the first webinar in a regional series examining how leading ports worldwide are implementing sustainable and climate-resilient solutions—and how these approaches can be adapted to Southeast Asia’s diverse port systems.
Ports are vital engines of trade and development, handling nearly 80% of global goods by volume, yet they face mounting environmental and social pressures—from greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution to waste, habitat disruption, and climate risk. The session explored how ports can transform these challenges into opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and resilience through:
Speakers included experts from ADB, Port of Newcastle, Port Klang Authority, and Green Marine, who shared practical lessons on advancing decarbonisation and resilience in the maritime sector.
“This series highlights the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in shaping the future of sustainable ports,” said Jackie Spiteri, Managing Director at SESG. “The insights from global leaders provide valuable direction for how Southeast Asian ports can balance economic growth with climate responsibility.”
The event was hosted through ADB’s Southeast Asia Development Solutions (SEADS) platform, with support from the European Union, and represents the first in a continuing series of knowledge exchanges designed to build momentum for sustainable port transformation across the region.
SEADS is the Asian Development Bank’s knowledge and collaboration platform dedicated to accelerating sustainable development across Southeast Asia.
Through research, innovation, and regional partnerships, SEADS helps governments and organisations:
SEADS provides practical tools, insights, and policy support to help countries navigate the transition to a more sustainable, climate-resilient future.
The ACGF is an initiative of the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund, jointly owned by ASEAN governments and managed by the Asian Development Bank. It provides project development support, concessional finance, and innovative blended financing solutions to help Southeast Asian governments prepare and fund green infrastructure projects that advance sustainable growth and climate resilience.
